Moon Dough Recipe

The recipe for our galaxy dough is pretty easy. But before we get started let’s answer the following questions about this magical dough first:

  • What is moon dough?
  • What is the difference between moon sand and kinetic sand?
  • How long does moon dough last?
  • How to store moon dough?

What is Moon Dough?

Moon dough is a homemade mixture used for sensory play activities. It is also called moon sand, cloud dough, or fairy dough.

You can make your own Galaxy dough out of different ingredients. There are recipes that make moon dough with flour and baby oil for example but our moon sand DIY is calling for cornstarch and conditioner.

What Is the Difference Between Moon Sand and Kinetic Sand?

Since we discovered that moon dough, galaxy sand, and cloud doh are the same thing you might wonder what is the difference between kinetic sand.

That leaves us to the question, what is kinetic sand?

Kinetic sand is advertised as mess-free play sand for sensory play activities. It has a sand texture but can stick together to form objects.

And that’s what I would say is the difference. Our galaxy dough is more of a fluffy play dough type of texture.

How Long Does Moon Dough Last?

The last question I want to answer before starting with our moon dough recipe is:

Does moon dough dry out or how long does it last?

When the fairy dough is stored correctly it can last a good month or longer. Nevertheless, you might experiment that you prefer to make new cloud dough before the old one tries it out.

How to Store Moon Dough?

To prevent our dough from trying out make sure to store it in an air-tight container or simply use a zip log bag.

If your dough gets dirty or dries out please discard it and make new glitter moon sand.

I made it just because I wanted to make it! Definitely easy and fun to do! I was thinking about little gifts for little customers that come into the store but haven't thought of a inexpensive way to pass out little balls of it yet! Thank you so much for the fun
